Knickerbocker Auto Transport
Customer Reviews
Eric brokered my auto transport and I could not be happier. I had my 2018 Audi A6 transported from Richmond, VA to Tacoma, WA. The carrier arrived on time and the vehicle arrived safely. Would recommend.

Eric is an excellent salesman. He does a great job of convincing you that he used to run his own fleet and now operates with a known pool of contract drivers that he holds personally responsible for the safe care and delivery of your vehicle. From the elaborate website to his phone system, he leads you to believe his organization is larger and more involved than it actually is. In reality, he is just one man-a broker who will work with any transporter desperate enough to agree to the exceptionally low fee he offers them. Eric arranged to ship my four door sedan from New Jersey to Texas for $1750. He wanted me to pay him when the car was delivered and I was satisfied with delivery. When the transporter came to pick up my car, I could not get in communication with Eric. I found out later he had a health emergency, but I did not speak with him for several days. I paid the driver $1100 in cash upon delivery, and then I heard from Eric. He asked the driver to give me the money back so that he could charge me and ensure he got his cut. Obviously the driver (who hadn't been able to reach him either) did not return the money, particularly since I was satisfied with the delivery, and Eric sent me an invoice for $650. Because I had agreed to his price at the outset and I value my integrity, I paid him $500-which is a lot considering all he did was make a couple of phone calls. His whole operation is inherently dishonest and he has a reputation among transporters for paying the lowest on the market. He seems like a nice guy but is actually a con man. My neighbor, who had recommended him, worked with him and had pretty much the same experience. He will cash your check but good luck getting in touch with him after that. Apparently he has several shell companies in different states he uses as well. Beware!
I have used knickerbocker two times now to ship my car from NJ to CA and back and I have had nothing but great experiences both times. Eric is very communicative and willing to answer all questions regarding the transport. The carriers he uses are efficient and it's clear Eric really knows his stuff! It's always scary to ship such a valuable item so far away but Eric makes it a very easy process. Thanks again!
Bait and switch. I requested a quote on the website and asked for expedited service for more than two months from when I made the request. Eric Sailor called me and told me the rate would be significantly higher. When I asked why the website said something different he started becoming very irate and stating that I should have known the rate would be higher given the pandemic. I explained that the pandemic had been going on for a year and that the website should be updated. He then began criticizing me for booking through the website. He is also not a carrier as the website states, he is a broker- another falsehood. Worst experience I have had while planning for this move.
Excellent, dependable service from booking through delivery. Three choices for delivery time frames, depending upon your need, as well voice of open or closed carrier. Owner, Eric S., a former driver himself, understands the definition of good service and delivers. I look forward to shipping my next vehicle with Knickerbocker.
*Update*We did in deed ship another vehicle using Knickerbocker four months later. Our truck arrived earlier than expected and in perfect condition. Thank you Eric for the outstanding service.
I would have loved to give Knickerbocker a positive review. Initial calls with Eric were great. He was super responsive and even though there were some challenges (drove to the middle of nowhere New Jersey to drop my car) it was a reasonable price compared to others.
Issues were threefold:
- Eric basically represented and used a facility that does its own direct auto transport. When questioned (because they were cheaper) he highlighted his business as better due to a number of factors. None of these ended up coming to fruition.
- the Rando he got to transport my car was horrible. Lack of communication or updates. Ended up delivering the car two or three days later than promised (meaning I missed being able to inspect the car). And throughout the process was full of lies regarding arrival time and why he wasn't delivering on time.
- car was damaged during transport but because I was out of town for 2 months after the fact and wasn't able to confirm and share this with Eric (because it was delivered late) I had no recourse for costs to fix the damage.
- finally, In reviewing his end of year books, Eric got confused about a voided transaction (I had been charged twice initially and there was a void in his books). He assumed that it was me doing it due to my dissatisfaction and charged my credit card again without confirming the issue with me. He left messages while I was in a meeting and then charged my card without confirming. When I called, he apologized for his angry action but for someone who highlights professionalism amongst his traits, I feel this was way out of line.
I was going to just leave things as is and not write a review and leave things as they were in August but given the action he took today I felt compelled to warn others.
