I contacted Stateway and my only contact was Emma Kaplin. I did this because I contacted another transporter the previous year and I didn't have confirmation of a driver till the last minute. I told Emma that I didn't want to wait that long. I wanted to get the car transporter at least a week before my departure. Emma appeared to be empathetic, kind and understanding of my situation. She even gave me her personal cell number. She was pleasant to talk with. I thought I made the right choice. However, Emma was a "Woolf in sheep's clothes". We had several phone and email connections and they were always pleasant . I felt that I had made the right choice. Several times, Emma told me, "Don't worry, everything will be okay." In spite of her kindness as described above, the two qualities she lacked were honesty and integrity.
The bottom line was, inspite of her kindness and reassurances, she never delivered the three things she promised. We never had a transporter, never had a time, and never had a driver. We therefore, had to change our plans because of her lack of integrity.
My wife and I were disappointed that we didn't have a driver, time and transporter. However, after reading many other reviews including the Better Business Bureau which gave Stateway an "F" review because of damaged vehicles, non delivery, and over charges.
We're happy that we never used Stateway Transporter. For your own peace of mind and well being, AVOID USING STATEWAY.

The front license plate was ripped off the front bumper in transport and small pieces of the corners were left in the screws. The finish and paint was scraped off of the bumper in the process. Not an expensive fix, just some re-painting in the spot so it doesnt rust. Its to the metal right now.
I was told I didn't meet the driver to get the car... the driver delivered early ... natural occurance (so is getting wet in the rain but we use an umbrella! or remove the plate before transport, right?) ... the owner said they thought I was a decent person ... I suggested painting was a small thing, I'll just get an estimate and let you know ... I was told not gonna happen.... who talks to people like this?
Just an update that a few weeks after receiving our car, it required significant maintenance issues due to leaks in both the power steering fluid and engine oil.
Car had been serviced and was working fine just one month before the shipment with Stateway. Hard to see the correlation between the overall terrible service and subsequent unexplained vehicle damage.
I won't use Stateway or JMA transport again for two reasons. 1 - I was assured more than once by Stateway that I could use a credit card to pay for the transport (Kan and Emma both confirmed and in writing) . When the driver from JMA Transport picked up the vehicle he told me it's not possible and suggested Stateway just told me what I wanted to hear so they could book their deposit. I felt I was plain lied to. Second, the day after our car was dropped off at the destination our heat shield was damaged which is cost to cost several hundred in reapirs. When JMA unloaded the vehicle they did in on a median in the middle of a highway. Our vehicles are impeccably maintained and inspected. We just had this vehicle in for a full inspection because the extended warranty was coming up. They wouldn't take responsibility because in the fine print they are not responsible for exhaust systems etc. So , you could in theory have a brand new exhaust or heat shield and they could destroy it. When I contacted Ken and Emma back about my issues I never heard back.
Never had a contract with them. They put our vehicle on the load board and refused to remove after calls and emails demanding it be removed. Drove up price and drove off competitors. Really shady outfit. Avoid!!!!
Not impressed with this company. I had a car shipped cross-country by them last year. The whole process was a headache from start to finish. Everything started out smoothly, but they quoted me, and gave me a receipt for one amount, and then tried to charge me a completely different amount. It took me about a month to finally get the extra money back that they charged us. If you go with this company, just be sure to over communicate with them so that they do not have any reason to charge you more than they said they would in the first place.
The worst company in my 20 years of moving across the country that I have ever worked with, anywhere. They say a date, then they don't call back. I had to chase them for 5 days to get a person who then still didn't know what time they would get it. Booked w Ship a car instead. If no stars were available that would be it.
I WILL NOT use this service again. The driver who was scheduled to pick up my car showed up in the WRONG STATE (after already being delayed for 24 hours and never updating us about what was going on)!!! How does that even happen? This caused a major inconvenience for the people who were waiting for my car to be picked up (I already moved to the final destination). Since my pick-up was on Saturday, there was absolutely NO-ONE available to help me or give me a status update. Apparently you're completely on your own if you have any issues over the weekend. When they finally returned my call 3 days later, I explained that this isn't the type of service I was promised, or what I paid for. They told me the error wasn't their fault and there's nothing they could do. No exceptions. WORST customer service I've experienced in a long time. I would suggest looking elsewhere is you need your car shipped anywhere.
I am currently in the midst of a difficult divorce and my soon to be ex-husband had requested my pickup and all of our tools. I live in Colorado and he has moved back to North Carolina. Going through such a stressful situation, I was dreading the process of transporting everything to him so much. I Googled auto transport companies and Stateway Auto Transport topped the list. I remember when I dialed the number, I said to myself that it was going to be the first of more than likely many phone calls searching for someone to help me. Not only was I sending a pickup, I was also needing to fill the bed of the truck with numerous contractor tools. I was worried that would be an issue.
Bill Pontrelli answered the phone and from the first moment on, he was nothing but professional, courteous, helpful, and incredibly kind! He assured me they could take care of everything I needed and provided me with a quote. On a sidenote, when I moved from North Carolina back to Colorado eight years ago, I spent days searching for auto transport companies to ship the same pickup. The cost of the vehicle itself was exactly the same as the other company charged me eight years ago. The added weight of the tools increased the price somewhat, but it was vastly more affordable than shipping them separately. To be honest, I felt more comfortable with Stateway than I did the other company right off the bat. I wasn't treated like just another sale to them. I was treated like a human being, even shown human kindness when I broke down explaining my situation.
When the time came to put the plan into motion, Mr. Pontrelli went into action. He and his manager went above and beyond to meet my deadline. I gave him a date that I wanted it to be shipped and he made it happen! He called me the day they located a driver and within a few hours, the transport pulled in the driveway. Jorge and his wife, Priscilla, quickly loaded the pickup and I watched them go to great pains to secure it effectively. They were both so kind and assured me they would take great care of everything. They worked as a team and drove straight through, reaching the destination in less than a day and a half! Everything arrived safely and intact with absolutely no damage!
The following morning, I received a phone call from Mary Botelho from Stateway Customer Service. Once again, I was treated with such wonderful professionalism and kindness. She wanted to follow-up to make sure everything was okay and asked if I had any questions or concerns. I assured her that I was more than satisfied and was, in fact, very grateful for the service they provided. I called Mr. Pontrelli later and thanked him, as well as the drivers.
It is an honor to bring to light my extreme satisfaction and appreciation of the excellent experience I received with Stateway Auto Transport and Towing! If the need ever arises for this service again, I will not hesitate to contact their company. Also, I will definitely be recommending them to my family and friends! Thank you, Stateway!!
I called to gain more insight. I offered pickup and drop off and asked when the car would be delivered. The sales rep opened an order without my consent , I did not authorize the use of their service did not sign anything, did not offer any payment. I even spoke to the rep the next day and said no thank you, I am not interested and have another service that I have engaged. Stateway picked up my car anyway. They highjacked the business. Just as crazy the dealer let it go without verification?
I reserved a transport for 2 vehicles, one non op, and required a wench. I was quoted a price WITH a wench and the no op status was made very clear as part of the quote. We were promised a March 18 pick up - No one showed. No call. No email. I left SEVERAL messages and sent many emails. No reply for 2 full days, despite their website stating 24/7 customer service. After many apologies and confirming we should of had a pick-up on Saturday, but they couldn't find a driver, they promised a driver the following day, Tuesday. Our flight for moving was leaving Tuesday morning, which left us with vehicles left behind, and coordinating with friends to help facilitate pick up. Driver arrives Tuesday with NO wench. After speaking with Stateway (who is a broker and not the actual transport company) we were told that another truck was being sent and they confirmed the first truck should have had a wench, HOWEVER, it was now going to cost an additional $450 for the new truck with a wench! We had a CONTRACT for a rate that INCLUDED a wench. Now that we are STUCK they try to bait and switch us on pricing! They claim that the driver they were sending charges more than the original driver... NOT MY PROBLEM. You quoted a price for a stated service. You provide said service for said price.
We were told "There was nothing they could do, since they don't set the price." Too bad, that's sometimes the cost of doing business; sometimes prices change mid contract, you have to eat that loss and adjust future contracts accordingly. You don't just change the contract.
We were told we would have to talk to the owner who was out for the next 3 days. It's been 3 days and we still haven't heard from the owner and they have our cars. David who booked my reservation has quit returning my calls. After another call to a manager, we were told the owner will call tomorrow. If this is resolved appropriately, I will update my review. Until then, I feel like I am being swindled and held hostage.
I received a quote of $220 more compare to other carrier and I wanted to choose the carrier. However the sales representative insisted that the Stateway does price match and adjusted the order confirmation with the matched price. Now at the time of dispatch, stateway said there is no way to keep the promised price, instead the original $220 more price came back. Now I complained about the price hike and they gave $100 discount however it is still $120 more compare to other quote. I feel this way of business is totally unreliable. If the price match is not possible, the matched price never should be provided. I feel so bad about this experience and I'll never come back and ask this company. Don't trust their price match, it is just a lie.
